One of the great things about Castelli is they aren’t satisfied with even their most impressive products. The Fawesome 2 Vest is an important update to the, um, awesome Fawesome.
The front takes its cues from the game-changing Gabba, and its variations. It’s made of Windstopper X-Lite Plus, which is windproof, waterproof, and very stretchy. Windstopper is a great external insulation layer, which can add a few degrees of warmth for the start or finish of rides with big temperature shifts. It’s even the material of the The benefits extend beyond that to include not only chilly descents after overheating climbs, but also riding in the rain, when you don’t need a full-on rain jacket, be it because you’re racing or because it’s relatively warm out.
The back features Nano Flex Light fabric, which means it is not only stretchy and lightly insulating, but also highly water-repellant. This kind of water resistance stops rooster tails and light drizzles from coming through, and means that it will dry out quickly when the precip stops.
As with most Castelli tops, the design should be a marginal, or not so marginal gain over the typical cycling vest. It’s supposed to fit like an aero race jersey, with nothing flapping. It’s crazy to have a slim fitting jersey and then ruin the benefits with a flapping vest. The Vislon zipper is strong and slides easily. The armholes are taped with reflective fabric, which is stretchy as well as bright. The waist hem is also covered with reflective fabric to give you an extra bit of visibility in low light conditions.
The Castelli Fawesome 2 Vest is the perfect removable outer layer for chilly days as well as rainy outings.
