Reflecting on the New Year

2022 was our first year with some semblance of normalcy since the beginning of the pandemic. Mask mandates were lifted, the buying frenzy tapered off, and we all had a chance to catch our breaths for the first time in years. With the coming of the new year we wanted to reflect what we’re taking into 2023, and what we’re hoping to leave behind in 2022.

Take it: Electronic shifting

Shimano finally caught up to SRAM to join the 12-speed gang. And better yet we’ve seen the introduction of entry level electronic shifting groups in Rival AXS from SRAM and 105 Di2 from Shimano. As a shop who loves their gadgets we’re excited to get more riders on electronic shifting bikes in 2023.

Leave it: Supply chain issues

At this point every industry has been hit at one point or another by shipment delays or product shortages. This is one aspect of 2022 we’re so ready to leave behind. One of our favorite things about our shop is the wide selection of bikes and accessories we get to carry, and without that our jobs aren’t nearly as much fun.

Take it: Tour de France 2022

This year was a particularly exciting Tour for us being a Cervelo dealer and watching our team climb to the top of the peloton. But also because our very own Rich Sherman was given the opportunity to attend the final two stages to watch our team roll to victory! It was a spectacular event the likes of which we may not see again for a long time, but we can dream that Jumbo Visma will achieve a similar victory in 2023!

Leave it: Roof Racks

Okay, maybe this didn’t suddenly happen in 2022, but has anyone noticed how roof racks have disappeared? We’re glad we aren’t throwing our backs out to lift our bikes above our heads. Tray style racks for receiver hitches have taken over and we (and our backs) are much happier for it.

Take it:  Pivot Cycles

We’re very excited to be carrying Pivot mountain bikes for 2023. We picked up their line of premium mountain bikes at the end of the season in 2022 when things started to slow down. We’ve had a lot of time to learn about the brand and their bikes and we’re excited to get some of you on one this year at one of our group rides or demos.

Leave it: Super skinny tires

Gone are the days of 80+ psi and 23 - 25mm tires. The industry has shifted to wide road tires ranging from 28 - 32mm and we are huge fans. Added comfort, traction, and aerodynamics makes this switch a no-brainer. We’re happily leaving skinny, harsh riding tires behind this year.

Take it: The return of group rides and community events

From 2020 to 2022 we all had to learn to enjoy our passions a little more independently than normal. But now that vaccines are readily available and the general consensus is that it’s safe to gather, we’re looking forward to rebuilding our group ride offerings, as well as bringing back our favorite shop parties. Keep an eye out for a special group ride opportunity we’ll be bringing to you in 2023!

Leave it:  Non-smart trainers

If you ride your trainer and you’re not on a smart trainer by this point, you’re missing out! With the starting price on smart trainers dropping into just a few hundred dollars, there’s very little reason not to make the switch.
