Winter is here and that means many of us have taken our bikes off the road, but it doesn't mean we have take our butts off our bikes...
Just because winter has arrived doesn't mean we have to succumb to primetime television and half empty boxes of holiday chocolates. No! It is true, there is an affordable and practical way to keep your cycle-happy legs moving all year long (and still keep up with your favorite TV characters). You may ask, what is this magical device that protects us from the harsh elements while still affording us the comforts of our own living rooms? The answer is as simple as their setup: indoor cycling trainers.
Indoor trainers are no new phenomenon. As long as we have been cycling, we have wanted sometimes to not cycle outdoors. We here in the Twin Cities probably know this more than any other community of cyclist. Enter the simple, stationary resistance adding machine, often called in short, the trainer. Trainers are simply the best way to set your own bike (your own fit!) up in your home or office. We understand that you love your bikes and hate seeing them collect dust in these dark and dreary winter months. So, here at NOW, we are committed to finding the best trainer for you and your beloved bicycle.
Blackburn TechMag 6 & Mag 3
Blackburn's TechMag 6 and Mag 3 are magnetic resistance trainers. This means that these trainers use a magnetic flywheel to add resistance to your wheels. This method of resistance is perfect for home use because it is near ninja-silent. There is no need to crank up the volume on Law and Order: SVU when using these trainers. The bad guys will get what is coming for them and you will get a smooth and even workout!
Both of these models feature a wide frame for stability and the TechMag 6 has a remote (seen in the picture) to control the resistance on your wheel without having to get off your bike. The Mag 3 has this adjustment feature as well but with no remote.
CycleOps JetFluid Pro
The CycleOps JetFluid Pro is another great trainer option. Unlike the magnetic trainers, fluid trainer use a special viscous fluid to create wheel resistance. This method is just as quiet as it's magnetic counterpart but where the magnetic trainers tend to provide a less-than-realistic resistance expereience the fluid style trainers mock road feel almost better than the road it self.
The JetFluid Pro features new cooling fans that keep the trainer operating at lower temperatures for longer which helps not only elongate the life of the machine but also maintain near identical experiences of resistance at all levels of training intensity. There is no wonder why we chose this model of trainer for our new trainer room at NOW St. Paul. There is simply nothing easier to set up, nothing more durable and nothing as consistent as this trainer.
Come stop in to take a test spin on any of these sweet machines!
